Cool roofs are distinguished among energy conservation measures because of the many environmental benefits they can provide. This course will help architects to evaluate problems with their clients’ structures/buildings and to design the means of correction and protection.

Minimize Energy Consumption with Enhanced Cool Roof Coatings

Learning Objectives:At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • define qualifications of an enhanced cool roof;
  • recognize the reasons for coating failures;
  • articulate the benefits of installing an enhanced cool roof;
  • calculate payback period for an enhanced cool roof; and
  • implement Department of Energy Guidelines for selecting a cool roof.

“Cool roofs are one of the quickest and lowest cost ways we can reduce our global carbon emissions and begin the hard work of slowing climate change.” —Dr. Steven Chu, US Energy Secretary

“Coating 1000sq/ft. of a commercial flat roof with a cool white coating offsets 10 tons of CO2 emissions. A car produces four tons of CO2 Per year.” —Heat Island Group LBNL.
